Sounds Of The Peeps
Looking for something new to listen to? Bored by that collection of CD's gathering dust in the corner. Didn't get as much pleasure out of that Billy Idol's Greatest Hits disc as you expected? Here are a few recommendations from us Salsa folks. Different styles fo' different smiles.
Keith sez: Hepcat. Hepcat is back. I saw them just a couple weeks ago in Chicago. They had all the hooligans shuffling their feet and swaying in unison. Spectacular 60's-style ska delivered with soul, horns, and an unmatched, old skool, authenticity. Highly recommended for anyone into the roots music thang. Check out Hepcat's rocksteady beats on Push 'N Shove or Right On Time.
Miker sez: Lucinda. You cannot go wrong with Lucinda Williams. Lots of albums to choose from, some more country, some more folk, some more rock. Her voice kicks it, her lyrics kill it. I dig this lady's music. Where to start? Try her self-titled Lucinda Williams album and then work your way forward in time from there. Feeling broken hearted? Essence is for you. Bouncing back? Try World Without Tears. Feeling dusty? Carwheels On A Gravel Road.
Dave sez: Lenny Kravitz, 5. The whole album is driving, beating, blood-pumping, get-you-up-and-moving, shake-your-booty-out-of-bed-in-the-morning, find-your-funk, pure rock and roll. Welcome to summer.
Bobby sez: I've been listening to the new Demon Hunter album (can't recall the name of the album right now) the New Blindside album called "About A Burning Fire" and have still been grooving on the new Lost Prophets album as well. Demon Hunter is a great album. Very dark with amazing rhythms. Super thick chunky guitar. Awesome blend of melodic and screaming vocal. Blindside is not quite as heavy but they have some awesome guitar riffs and I also like the vocal on this album. Lost Prophets is super catchy stuff. Super tight harmony on the vocals as well as nice phat guitar chunks. Very cool how the whole disc molds together. Very cool disc to sit down and listen to the whole thing. Great production work as well.
Chucker sez: I suggest the last Rancid album Indestructible. Sticking to the true roots of punk rock.
Josh sez: The Spits. Anything they have recorded and released kicks serious ass (all 3 records are self titled). Imagine crossing early Devo with the Ramones and giving them skateboards. Not available at your big box mall music stores. Seek them out at your locally owned rock'n'roll record store or on the web.
