Sounds Of The Peeps

Looking for something new to listen to? Bored by that collection of CD's gathering dust in the corner. Didn't get as much pleasure out of that Billy Idol's Greatest Hits disc as you expected? Here are a few recommendations from us Salsa folks. Different styles fo' different smiles.

Keith sez: Hepcat. Hepcat is back. I saw them just a couple weeks ago in Chicago. They had all the hooligans shuffling their feet and swaying in unison. Spectacular 60's-style ska delivered with soul, horns, and an unmatched, old skool, authenticity. Highly recommended for anyone into the roots music thang. Check out Hepcat's rocksteady beats on Push 'N Shove or Right On Time.

Miker sez: Lucinda. You cannot go wrong with Lucinda Williams. Lots of albums to choose from, some more country, some more folk, some more rock. Her voice kicks it, her lyrics kill it. I dig this lady's music. Where to start? Try her self-titled Lucinda Williams album and then work your way forward in time from there. Feeling broken hearted? Essence is for you. Bouncing back? Try World Without Tears. Feeling dusty? Carwheels On A Gravel Road.

Dave sez: Lenny Kravitz, 5. The whole album is driving, beating, blood-pumping, get-you-up-and-moving, shake-your-booty-out-of-bed-in-the-morning, find-your-funk, pure rock and roll. Welcome to summer.

Bobby sez: I've been listening to the new Demon Hunter album (can't recall the name of the album right now) the New Blindside album called "About A Burning Fire" and have still been grooving on the new Lost Prophets album as well. Demon Hunter is a great album. Very dark with amazing rhythms. Super thick chunky guitar. Awesome blend of melodic and screaming vocal. Blindside is not quite as heavy but they have some awesome guitar riffs and I also like the vocal on this album. Lost Prophets is super catchy stuff. Super tight harmony on the vocals as well as nice phat guitar chunks. Very cool how the whole disc molds together. Very cool disc to sit down and listen to the whole thing. Great production work as well.

Chucker sez: I suggest the last Rancid album Indestructible. Sticking to the true roots of punk rock.

Josh sez: The Spits. Anything they have recorded and released kicks serious ass (all 3 records are self titled). Imagine crossing early Devo with the Ramones and giving them skateboards. Not available at your big box mall music stores. Seek them out at your locally owned rock'n'roll record store or on the web.

Monday morning Haiku.

I'm still recovering from the thrashing I received trying to keep up with everyone out in Jim Thorpe, those are some gnarly trails. The Dirt Rag crew took Bobby and I down a mile long death-clench ravine of loose rock, and while riding with Chris and Mike from Speedgoat in Laughlintown I actually became stuck between two rocks. No, not my tire. I actually wedged both pedals fast in a narrow track between two knee high rocks. I still haven't figured out how Chris rode that... All in all some of the best riding I've ever done and the crew at Speedgoat is tops.

We frequently have impromptu poetry sent through office email and the morning ride seems to inspire a lot of haiku. Here's one from Julia in our receiving department.

bunnies in the park
munching trailside weeds and grass
why dart for my wheels

Do you have a good original poem to share? Send us your best haiku and we'll post the best responses here.

Gone Racing...

Salsa will be representin' in Wisconsin this weekend at the WORS Cup Stage Race. Events get underway Friday night with the individual Time Trial and then continue throughout the weekend with Short Track and XC events. Not part of the stage race, but still fun all the same, are events for kids, and even a DH race and Dual Slalom for the gravity hounds. More info at www.wors.org

Salsa Pro Jeff Hall will be on hand to suffer some...and hopefully make others suffer even more. I'll be manning the Salsa tent, showing off our wares, and peeling dried skin from my sunburnt arms...yuck.

Stop by and say hello. First person on Saturday or Sunday to come up to me at the booth and say, "My name is Luca", wins a special prize!

Word.

East Coast In The House...

Those of you out there on the righthand side of the country oughta think about hitting PA this weekend for the Jim Thorpe Mountain Bike Weekend. It starts Thursday, June 17 and runs through Sunday, June 20. Good old fashioned fun is to be had.

From what I've been told, Jim Thorpe is some of the best mountain bike riding on the planet. Unfortunately, I won't be there to see if it's true, but two of the Salsa Posse will be. Look for Bobby (hair that changes like a Mood Ring) and Dave (pointy sideburns) in the Salsa tent and tell em' Kid told you to say "Hi" and that we miss them a whole bunch back at Salsa HQ.

While you're there, check out the 2005 prototype that they've got with them. It's a gentle giant and that's as much of the secret as you'll get from me. Head to Jim Thorpe if you want to know more.

Peace out Amigos.

Downtown Julie Brown won't be there this weekend, but Salsa will...

Stop and chat with Salsa folk tonight and the rest of this weekend at the Nature Valley Grand Prix. We'll have a booth set up tonight in downtown Minneapolis for the Twilight Criterium, as well as in Red Wing on Saturday, and Stillwater on Sunday. While you're checking out the racing action, give a hearty cheer as the women of Team TDS-Schwalbe or the boys of Team Salsa/Superteam ride by.

If you're from our neighbor state Wisconsin and are within striking distance of Mt Horeb, consider spectating the final climb of the Horribly Hilly Hundreds on Saturday. We can say for sure there'll be at least a couple of Salsa Amigos grinding their way up to the finish after a long day in the saddle.

If you are taking part in either of these events this weekend, or one of the countless others across the nation/world/universe, big ups to you! Enjoy the ride!

Many of you may know this already, but for those of you that don't Salsa Cycles is a big supporter of Women's professional cycling. For the past two years, Salsa Cycles has sponsored the very successful TDS-Schwalbe Women's Professional Cycling Team with frames and components. We are very fortunate to have these athletes testing, providing feedback and representing the Salsa brand all across the country.

As true professionals should, the TDS-Schwalbe Team spends a good portion of their free time between races visiting schools around the country teaching young kids about bicycle safety, bike racing and why we all wear such funny clothing. How many cyclists do you see taking time to talk to the fans after a big race?

For a little insight into the riders and team, check out these links.
