I have been really sick.
Not just your average sniffle and cough kind of sick, but a shaking with malarial fever and hallucinating kind of sick. Nice Christmas present, eh? I was housebound for three days, but on Sunday I did have the pleasure of watching Smokey and the Bandit on TV. Yes it's a really bad movie (not as bad as the two sequels) but I love it anyway. I hadn't seen it in at least 10 years and there were some interesting points I noted in my Robitussin haze.
1. Trans Ams were the ultimate cool in 1977. Especially with T-Tops.
2. You can drive from Texas to Georgia and only stop for gas once and food twice.
3. Gas only cost 47 cents a gallon. Two cheeseburgers were $1.50.
4. Sally Fields was cute. No, really. She looked good in jeans.
5. Burt Reynolds character's real name was Bo Darville. Remember this, it will be a game winning trivia question for you someday.
6. Having a complete disregard for the speed limit and officer's of the law is funny. Don't believe me? Rent Cannonball Run.
7. An entire subculture and lingo built around the CB radio has disappeared thanks to cell phones.
8. Jerry Reed who did the soundtrack was also Bandit's sidekick driving the beer truck. Apparently I am the only person alive who didn't already know this.
9. Bandit hardly looks at the road when he drives. It's cool when Burt does it. Scares me to death when my dad does it.
This movie may have been more influential on me in my developing years then I realized and may have bits of wisdom for other bikers like you. For instance, I still believe more speed tends to solve problems. Other lessons I've carried over to the bike include locking up your wheels on gravel is fun, and you can jump anything if you go fast enough.
All of us here at Salsa would like to wish you and your family a happy holiday. 10-4 good buddy, over and out.

Look out! They let the grumpy engineer have access to the blog. Fortunately I'll spare all of you with the details and skip right along to my other favorite hobby. Rock and Roll. A while back Kid posted a current listening list and I think it needs to be continued with a little more frequency so here are my recommendations based on what I am listening to this week.
Old school - The Fall. Anything they have done is pretty good but "Live at the the Witch Trials" is my current cup of tea (by the way they're brits). I can swear The Outkast ripped off the riff from a song on this album.
New school - Lightning Bolt - "Wonderful Rainbow". Kind of noisy not nearly as warm and fuzzy as a rainbow suggests. Lots of cool and unusual arragnements of sound, pretty high energy. Not much lyrics. Not a pretty piece of background music for the holidays. Well, maybe for my holidays but your family probably wouldn't be so kind. Probably best on the trip home from the family fesitvities.
That's all I have. Go ride a bike and don't freeze to death.

Jordan's 8th Birthday
I'm throwing out a Happy Birthday shout-out to my main man, Jordan. He is 8-years-old today and is doing a really great job of growing up into a fine young man.
To all of you out there who have kids, do something fun with them today. They deserve it.

2004 Cyclocross Nationals, Portland, OR
The Salsa Cycles SuperTeamRacing team sent a few riders off to Portland to partake in the 2004 National Championships this past weekend. For some exciting photos of all the action, check out our favorite local USCF official, Matt Moses's, photo page . There are plenty of shots of Salsa racers diggin' in the mud.
Ride and Smile...

Where's Chuck?
A little freezing rain and fog this morning and our intrepid reporter hasn't shown up for work yet. Maybe he's just tired of slandering my name in print, not that I don't deserve it. I've chosen to combat this bleary Minnesota morning weather with a strict regimen of herbal tea and homemade cookies. Ah yes, nothing like good-morning cookies to take your mind off things...

You know, we have been blamed on several occasions for taking our fun a little too far but I believe this is the first time we have been accused of being "crack smoking fools". Our friend, Chris Robinson at Robinson Wheelworks of San Leandro, CA , and I am using the term "friend" here very loosely, felt the need to point out Dave's latest vice. Look, Dave has issues, we all know it but I wouldn't say he has worked his way up to the crack yet. Sure lately he has had some strange mood swings, been caught rootin' through my Chrome bag for money, picking imaginary lice from Bobby's head, and licking the back of his hands, but I think that is mostly because he has to sit within such close proximity to me every day. (no spooning aloud, Dave)
Where was I, oh yes...
Chris decided to send us his Salsa Products Wish List for items we currently do not have in our 2005 catalog. It looks something like this:
1 Salsa carbon fiber adult stabilizers( training wheels sounds so uncool)
2 Salsa tobacco chew ( in a titanium snuff can)
3 Salsa Las Vegas trade show survival kit containing the following:
- ID card ( ie. if found please return to the Bellagio Hotel)
- Free passes to the following strip clubs Club paradise, Palomino Club, and the Garden of Eden
- Instant coffee or 1 gram of crystal meth
- 1 straw for the crystal meth
- T Shirt with the logo "What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas"
- Altoids breath mints (large size box)
- handi wipes for every disease infected hand i shake during the show
- a firm guarantee at the airport for 1 free full body cavity search.
4 Salsa ice cream scoop
5 Salsa poncho clear see thru ( for Gallagher comedy shows)
6 Salsa lobster bib with Velcro attachment straps
7 Salsa pogo stick with upgraded coil spring for 225 weight or Fox RPS air shox This is quite the insightful list, Chris. Perhaps some professional help is needed. Later -chuck

Yinz guys may not know this, but Salsa Cycles is a global empire. That's right. You can find Salsa frames and parts rolling around England, Germany, Japan, and Australia.
Check it out. Since I posted last week for folks to start sending in pics of their Salsa rides for our blog, we have been getting swamped with responses. We can't post them all but we are really making it a point to get you all represented on the site. Here is an example of a nicely packaged, old-skool meets new-skool Ala Carte from Matt G. in Tazmania. Check out the bar top XT thumbies on this bad boy... Hey Matt? What's up with those tires? I have to say, this is one nicely decked-out ride.

Matt must be a die hard, long time Salsa fan. Check out this retro jersey he's been hangin' onto.
Hey Matt, if you like that, wait 'til you see the new Salsa Classico Wool jersey. 100% Merino wool with a fully embroidered "Salsa" vintage logo. This thing is sweet!!! We should start seeing them in February. So make sure to start buggin' your parents for some cash.

Well. More later. Gotta get my daily dose of iTunes and scotch. Besides, workin' with Dave all day is gnawin' my craw. Really. You should try workin' with this guy. He never shuts up.
Remember, "if it ain't Moto, it's worthless." -chuck
