Admitting you have a problem
Admitting you have a problem is the first step. I'm sure many of you think I'm going to talk about my addiction to bike parts. While it is true I have a serious addiction to bikes and bike parts, today I'm admitting to the world I've got another addiction. Bags & Cases. Maybe some of you can relate.
Recently, I went Christmas shopping. I thought I was doing so well by being a few weeks ahead of schedule. I wasn't going to screw up this year and I was giving myself some extra time to find something just right for my amazing and patient wife. I figured I'd hit a few stores looking for her gift and then just take a quick look at the Apple Store. You know, just to see if they had any cool new accessories that might be new. This is where my plan veered off course. Sound familiar?!
I quickly got caught up in all the cool new Nano accessories. This happened mainly because Senor Chuck showed me his new Nano case that holds his ID and a Credit or Check Card. I don't even have a Nano. I quickly found myself pricing them just so I could justify buying one of the cool cases. Thankfully, aluminum anodized Shuffle jackets caught my eye. After looking at all the different Shuffle accessories, I decided to buy one of those anodized cases because I wanted some protection when I throw it in my back pack.
While in line, and there was a long one, something caught my eye. It was a new messenger style bag that would be perfect for my computer and a few files. I thought to myself, I shouldn't do that because I already bought a new computer bag earlier this year to go to Germany and the UK. However, I could use one of those nice thin neoprene covers for my computer to keep my computer from getting damaged in my Chrome back pack I bought to go to Japan this year and now use for commuting.
It didn't hit me until I got home. I just justified buying a new Nano and at least two bags or cases when I didn't need any of them. Thankfully, I got out of the store with only the Shuffle jacket.
I kind of chuckled that night when I went to my closet and looked at the floor. I couldn't believe my eyes. I have a bag for every occasion. I saw a bag I take to the gym, an old Rock Shox messenger shoulder bag, and two old Timbuk2 bags. I also noticed the back back I bought my wife to hold her yoga stuff. I then proceeded to the junk/bike room. There I found a back pack, the computer bag I purchased earlier that year, 3 sets of panniers I used to use for my tours, a mid size pack for day trips, about 10 dry bags I used to use for bike touring and back packing, and countless little bags I fill with stuff to pack more stuff in my other bags. Wow, I do have a problem.
Well, this isn't one of those feel good stories where you identify the problem and fix it. I don't plan to fix my newfound addiction. I love bags and cases. Truthfully, I'm thinking of ways to get rid of some of my old bags to help fund some new ones.
Know anyone who needs a bag or two?
