Before you all get blurry eyed with jubilation...yes its true...contrary to popular belief I'm still alive. Although I haven't posted a blog in several months (shame on me) I am still around Salsa land doing my part in sharing grumpiness and cynacism in name of riding and smiling. Bit ironic isn't it. Actually I'm not all that grumpy or cycnical but I needed a persona so went with it. Okay..maybe I'm a bit cycnical. Anyway...
The biggest tradeshow in the bike industry as we know it is taking place next week in Sin City, Las Vegas. If your gonna be there...God help you, but stop by and say hi. I'll be the one pretending to be super happy to have been standing on my feet for the past 3 days straight sporting a semi smile and dredlocks. If you are going to be at home scanning the web every 30 seconds for spy photos of the newest techno and otherwise gear...I say down with productivity and search away! In all seriousness though the show is pretty cool and you get to see all kinds of crazy cool bike stuff, and we have plenty of it to show off ourselves. Jason has dropped a few hints and believe me its not just hype...even this grouchy MTB dork thinks our new stuff is over the top cool. If your doing those web searches I talked about earlier...I can almost gaurantee you that our new stuff is so cool we'll be in at least half the photos you just have to send to your friends in the cube across the way. So..stop by the booth or the web or whatever and check out the new candy in Salsaville next week. You won't regret it.
One more unrelated thing. I started loading some of my older cd's onto the ole' ipod in preperation for hours of travel. One such cd was a band called Stretch Armstrong. Their record "A Revolution Transmission" is a must for your hard core punk collection and is awesome to ride to. (at appropriate volumes so as not hurt oneself or others of course) And if you haven't picked up my bands cd "Everyone has an hourglass.." your in big trouble. Go get it now. Or else.
Bobby Salsa Cycles resident tough guy persona. (but really just a wimp with nerdy glasses)

Early Reports!
Well, I just thought I'd post a quick update to the new bike I assembled last Friday. It's one of our top secret framesets that we are debuting at Interbike. Here's the early report from Natalie, my soon to be 4 year old daughter.
"Daddy, that's cool and golden."
Additionally, I've been playing with the SRAM Rival group. The double tap shifting is interesting. Just like Shimano Dual Control, I'm going to use it for an extended period of time before a full review. Two initial things I don't like. The shifters DO NOT include downtube cable stops and they DO NOT include enough cable end caps to do a proper install. I really dislike these small technical oversites.

Oh what a day!
Today just might be my favorite day of the year. As you may know, I am a big parts and bike junkie. Well, today did not disappoint.
I started my day installing a new SRAM Rival group on a super top secret project we are releasing at Interbike. What could be better than a completely new bike with new technology? I really wanted to go back to Campy, but I couldn't resist the SRAM group. I justified it by telling myself that by installing and riding the new SRAM stuff, I just might have something to talk about with all those roadie's next week at Interbike.
Shortly after the partial Rival group install, our Salsa folks had a long product meeting to talk about next year and beyond. This was so nice because we got to talk about bikes, parts and more bikes. I think this is why we all got into this business anyway. Instead of worrying about press check, dealer programs, shipping and what not, we got to talk about some really big picture high level stuff. It was awesome. I planned this discussion this week because I wanted folks to forget about next week's Interbike madness. It was a really fun meeting and it was great to be at work and not think about Interbike.
As if the day was not good enough, we received our final new project that we will be debuting at Interbike. It is an absolute show stopper. Seriously. It is simply unbelievable.
Interbike is going to be a blast. We have so much new stuff. I can pretty much guarantee that we will have at least one new product that will interest you. We've poured our hearts into this year. This may sound like marketing hype, but I think you will see just how much our Salsa team loves cycling. If you are going to Interbike, please come on over to say hello and see what kind of MN hotdish we are serving.
Have a great weekend everyone.

Today's Fortune
Bobby and I had a Salsa World Domination lunch meeting today. Fortunately for the rest of the world, we forgot to write down our plans on the tiny napkins. I did not leave empty handed though. I received the following fortune that I took with me. I can't deny the simple truth of this fortune so I thought I'd share it with you. So for all crazy folks like me that hoard bike parts, here it is. Think about it.
A bargain is not a bargain unless you can use the product.

May The Day Treat You Well
Five years ago today I rode my bike in to work on an incredibly beautiful, early fall morning. It was absolutely stunning. The sun was out. The skies clear and bright.
I arrived at work and took a shower and headed to my desk. Ed saw me and knowing I was an NPR listener asked if I'd heard the knews that a 747 had crashed into the World Trade Center in New York.
Of course we all know the course of the rest of that day. A brutal and ugly day in history.
But I'll still remember that it was beautiful morning when I rode in.
Take a minute to think of those that lost their lives that day and wish their families peace today. It is the smallest thing you can do for them and I believe it can do some good.
Make today a good day. -Kid

One Month Ago
A month ago today I broke the radial head of my radius. Yeah, it hurt. It's been a month and I haven't done much in the way of riding. Well, I got the Ok from the Doc to do some easy road riding. I did about a 30 minute ride tonite on my El Mariachi. Amazing how much you can lose in one month. Darn it anyway. The good news is that I can finally ride and next week I'm building one of our super top secret 2007 frames we will unveil at Interbike. Sounds fun doesn't it?
One other thing to note. Our new and updated Size-O-Matic II went into stock at QBP today! All you folks that have been telling us you really need this new stem to perform those critical bicycle fits can rejoice. Thank you for waiting and I hope this new professional fitting tool meets your needs and expectations.
Have a great weekend everyone.
