The short term death of blog comments
Folks, this is a hard post to write. Until further notice and a fix from Blogger, we will be suspending comments on the Amigo blog. I'm sorry it has come to this, but until we get some new procedures and editing capability, the ability to comment here is now gone.
In an effort to explain why, I want to share some of the things our crafty commenter's are doing.
1) Comments are becoming too negative and too antagonistic. Funny thing here is that I read the November 2008 issue of Wired on my flight back from Utah and it had an article in it about "Killing your Blog" - Page 27 by Paul Boutin. Blogging is less effective for many reasons, yet he states "...your blog will still draw the Net's lowest form of life: the insult commenter." Now I know it is only a few folks that comment here fall into that category, but frankly speaking, it is tiresome and until we make some changes here in Salsa land and Blogger gives us back the authority to delete individual comments, we need to remove all commenting.
2) Marketing - Successful blogs are now filled with marketing. We get posts that refer folks to other things like online gambling, other products...and recently, a slew of posts pointing folks to other BIKE brands. Hmmmm.....That doesn't really work for us nor does it go to our intended use of the Amigo's blog.
3) Posting on other posts and too often redirecting. This redirection is also often in a negative light or way.
4) Personal - The insult or antagonistic commenter(s) have moved beyond the Salsa blog and found some of our employee's personal blogs and started commenting there. Enough I say. You win. Don't come back. Yet I'm sure that by stating "Go away now and don't come back here!" that I've frustrated you so much that you won't let it go.
5) Our new Business to Business website for Salsa dealers. Initially, the blog was a way to disperse information to both dealers and consumers. We've now launched a Salsa specific B2B website for our dealers for dealer focused communication. What this means is that we need to identify the what, why and how we use the Salsa Amigo's Blog. I want to be clear in that adding the B2B doesn't mean that we are killing the Salsa blog. It just means we are going to change some of the strategies.
So...with that, here's to the temporary black out of comments on the Amigo's blog. We will be back up and running with new procedures in the future.
