Measurements based on:

  • A Salsa Makwa 150 Carbon or Bearpaw 150 Carbon fork, both of which are equivalent to a RockShox Bluto (100mm) at 25% sag
  • A 26 x 4.0" tire measuring 742mm in diameter
  • Standover (P) measured vertically to top of toptube from a position 50mm forward of BB center

Additional Features

Salsa Fat Bike Geometry

The geometry used across our entire fat bike line has remained basically unchanged since developing the Beargrease Carbon back in 2012. We’ve adapted it to all our fat bike models because it works extremely well in all conditions and use cases, whether it be riding groomed singletrack at your local trail, exploring a deserted beach, or embarking across the wild frozen expanses of Alaska in the ITI race. At its core, we use the shortest chainstay possible in conjunction with a headtube angle and fork offset that place the rider’s center of gravity further over the rear wheel. This location and combination of front and rear center is key to getting a fat bike that is stable, steers well in loose conditions, and still also feels nimble and agile despite the massive wheels and tires. A low bottom bracket height is also key, to keep the rider’s center of gravity low, and to make dabbing and dismounting easier

1x & 2x Drivetrain Compatible

This frame is compatible with both 1x and 2x drivetrain setups. A removable direct-mount front derailleur bracket allows for clean 1x build

Full-Length Housing Cable Routing

Full-length housing improves shifting performance in poor conditions and increases use time between maintenance intervals

Multiple Bottle Cages

MD, LG, XL frames accept 2 bottle cages. SM frame accepts 1 bottle cage

177 x 12mm Symmetrical Rear Spacing

Results in a strong rear wheel and frame; maintains proper chainline with crankset

PressFit 41 x 121mm Bottom Bracket

Compatible with all 1x and 2x fat bike-specific cranks in both GXP and 24mm spindle types, that matches up to 170/177mm rear spacing

Replaceable Derailleur Hanger

Extra sold separately

Tapered Headtube

The modern standard for mountain bikes increases front-end frame and fork stiffness without adding significant weight

Bearpaw Carbon Fork

The Bearpaw Carbon fork features a 150mm thru-axle that boosts stiffness and improves steering precision. The fork also features our Three-Pack mounts for mounting Anything Cages or water bottle cages and can accommodate 5" tires mounted to 100mm-wide rims

Front Fork Wheel & Tire Options

The fork included with this frame is compatible with the following wheel and tire combinations: 26 x 3.8–4.8" on up to a 100mm rim, 29 x 2.25–3" (including 29+), 27.5 x 3.0–3.25" (27.5+)

High-Modulus Carbon Fiber Frame

This material offers improved stiffness, better vibration damping, excellent toughness and weight savings compared to other materials. This frame offers an average of 474g of weight savings over the aluminum version

Suspension Fork Compatible

Designed around Salsa’s 51mm offset Makwa and Bearpaw fatbike forks, this frame is also fully compatible with 100mm travel fat bike-specific suspension forks

Rear Wheel & Tire Options

Beargrease Carbon is designed for use with 26 x 4" fat bike wheels on rims up to 100mm wide. The frame is also compatible with the following wheel and tire combinations: 26 x 4.33" on up to a 100mm rim (1x drivetrain only), 26 x 4.34–4.7" on up to 82mm rim (1x drivetrain only), 29 x 2.25–3" (including 29+), 27.5 x 3.0–3.25" (aka 27.5+)
