Additional Features

Aluminum 6066-T6 Tubeset

Top-shelf, double and triple-butted, heat-treated AL-6066-T6 tubing is used throughout the frame. This 6000-series aluminum has better strength and fatigue characteristics than 6061 and 7000-series aluminums, allowing for a stronger and lighter overall frame. Additionally, the tubing is strategically shaped and formed for additional stiffness and strength optimization in key stress areas

Suspension Fork Compatible

Designed around Salsa’s 51mm offset Makwa and Bearpaw fat bike forks, this frame is also fully compatible with 100mm travel fat bike-specific suspension forks

Salsa Fat Bike Geometry

The geometry used across our entire fatbike line has remained basically unchanged since developing the Beargrease Carbon back in 2012. We’ve adapted it to all of our fat bike models because it works extremely well in all conditions and use cases whether it be riding groomed singletrack at your local trail, exploring a deserted beach, or embarking across the wild frozen expanses of Alaska in the ITI race. At its core, we use the shortest chainstay possible in conjunction with a headtube angle and fork offset that place the rider’s center of gravity further over the rear wheel. This location and combination of front and rear center is key to getting a fat bike that is stable, steers well in loose conditions, and still also feels nimble and agile despite the massive wheels and tires. A low bottom bracket height is also key, to keep the rider’s center of gravity low, and to make dabbing and dismounting easier

Full-Length Housing Cable Routing

Full-length housing improves shifting performance in poor conditions and increases use time between maintenance intervals

Multiple Bottle Cages

All frame sizes accept 3 bottle cages

197 x 12mm Thru-Axle Symmetrical Rear Spacing

Results in a strong rear wheel and frame; maintains proper chainline with crankset

PressFit 41 x 132 Bottom Bracket

Compatible with all 1x and 2x fatbike cranks with a 24mm spindle and a

Alternator Dropout Versatility

76mm chainline that match up to 190/197 rear spacing

Tapered Headtube

The Alternator dropout delivers incredible drivetrain versatility. Run singlespeed or geared. Set the Alternator dropouts all the way forward for a shorter wheelbase that results in quick and nimble handling, or set back for more stability. See our Alternator Page for more info

Bearpaw Carbon Fork

The modern standard for mountain bikes increases front-end frame and fork stiffness without adding significant weight

Wheel & Tire Options

The Bearpaw Carbon fork features a 150mm thru-axle that boosts stiffness and improves steering precision. The fork also features our Three-Pack mounts for mounting Anything Cages or water bottle cages and can accommodate 5" tires mounted to 100mm-wide rims

Blackborow is designed for use with 26 x 4.8" fat bike wheels on rims up to 100mm wide. The frame and fork are also compatible with the following wheel and tire combinations: 26 x 3.8–4.8" on up to a 100mm rim, 29 x 2.25–3" (including 29+), 27.5 x 3.0–3.25" (27.5+)
