Measurements based on:

  • A Salsa Bearpaw Carbon fork which is equivalent to a RockShox Bluto at 25% sag
  • A 26 x 4.0" tire measuring 742mm in diameter
  • Standover (P) measured vertically to top of toptube from a position 50mm forward of BB center

Additional Features

Aluminum 6066-T6 Tubeset

Top-shelf, double and triple-butted, heat-treated AL-6066-T6 tubing is used throughout the frame. This 6000-series aluminum has better strength and fatigue characteristics than 6061 and 7000-series aluminums, allowing for a stronger and lighter overall frame. Additionally, the tubing is strategically shaped and formed for additional stiffness and strength optimization in key stress areas

RockShox Bluto Suspension Fork Included

100mm travel. Tapered steerer tube. 150 x 15m thru-axle hub spacing, 74mm post-mount fork

Salsa Fat Bike Geometry

The geometry used across our entire fat bike line has remained basically unchanged since developing the Beargrease Carbon back in 2012. We’ve adapted it to all our fat bike models because it works extremely well in all conditions and use cases whether it be riding groomed singletrack at your local trail, exploring a deserted beach, or embarking across the wild frozen expanses of Alaska in the ITI race. At its core, we use the shortest chainstay possible in conjunction with a headtube angle and fork offset that place the rider’s center of gravity further over the rear wheel. This location and combination of front and rear center is key to getting a fat bike that is stable, steers well in loose conditions, and still also feels nimble and agile despite the massive wheels and tires. A low bottom bracket height is also key, to keep the rider’s center of gravity low, and to make dabbing and dismounting easier

Full-Length Housing Cable Routing

Full-length housing improves shifting performance in poor conditions and increases use time between maintenance intervals

Multiple Bottle Cages

XS and SM accept 2 bottle cages, MD–XL accept 3

170 x 10mm Symmetrical Rear Spacing

Results in a strong rear wheel and frame; maintains proper chainline with crankset

PressFit 41 x 121mm Bottom Bracket

Compatible with all 1x and 2x fat bike-specific cranks in both GXP and 24mm spindle types, that matches up to 170/177mm rear spacing

Alternator Dropout Versatility

The Alternator dropout delivers incredible drivetrain versatility. Run singlespeed or geared, QR or thru-axle, freehub or Rohloff. Set the Alternator dropouts all the way forward for a shorter wheelbase that results in quick and nimble handling, or set back for more stability—the power is yours. See our Alternator Page for more info

Tapered Headtube

The modern standard for mountain bikes increases front-end frame and fork stiffness without adding significant weight

Wheel & Tire Options

Mukluk Aluminum is designed for use with 26 x 4" fat bike wheels on rims up to 100mm wide. The frame is also compatible with the following wheel and tire combinations: 26 x 3.8-–4.6" on up to 100mm rim (1x drivetrain only), 29 x 2.25–3" (including 29+), 27.5 x 3.0–3.25" (aka 27.5+), NOT COMPATIBLE WITH TIRES LARGER THAN 26 x 4.6"
