  • Standover is measured from ground to top of toptube at forward portion of the kink

Additional Features

6066-T6 Aluminum Frame

Top-shelf, double and triple-butted, heat-treated 6066-T6 aluminum tubing is used throughout the frame. This 6000-series aluminum has better strength and fatigue characteristics than 6061 and 7000-series aluminums, allowing for a stronger and lighter overall frame. Additionally, the tubing is strategically shaped and formed for additional stiffness and strength optimization in key stress areas

Mukluk Geometry

Mukluk’s geometry works extremely well in all conditions and use cases, whether it's riding groomed singletrack at your local trail, exploring a coastline, or embarking across the wild frozen expanses of Alaska. We use the shortest chainstays possible with a headtube angle and fork offset that place the rider’s center of gravity farther back. This combination of front and rear center is key to getting a fat bike that is stable, steers well in loose conditions, and still feels nimble despite the massive wheels and tires. A low bottom bracket also keeps the rider’s center of gravity low and makes dabbing, dismounting, and remounting easier

26 x 4.6” Wheel & Tire Size

Mukluk rolls on 26 x 4.6" tires on 80 mm rims. This huge tire delivers massive traction, stability, and optimum floatation on soft surfaces such as ungroomed snow or loose sand

Bearpaw Fork

This carbon fork features a 150 x 15 mm thru-axle that boosts stiffness and improves steering precision. The fork also features our Three-Pack mounts for accessorizing with Anything Cages or water bottle cages

Alternator Dropouts V1.0

The Alternator dropout delivers incredible drivetrain versatility. Run singlespeed or geared, QR or thru-axle, freehub or Rohloff. Set the Alternator dropouts all the way forward for a shorter wheelbase that results in quick and nimble handling, or set back for more stability—the power is yours. See our Alternator page for more info

Front Wheel and Tire Options

The fork included with this frame works with the following wheel and tire combinations: 26 x 3.8–4.8" on up to a 100 mm rim / 27.5 x 3.0–4.0" on an 80 mm rim / 29 x 2.3–3.0" on a 50 mm rim

Rear Wheel & Tire Options

The Mukluk frame is designed for use with the following wheel and tire combinations: 26 x 3.8–4.8" on up to a 100 mm rim / 27.5 x 3.0–4.0" on an 80 mm rim / 29 x 2.25–3.0" on a 50 mm rim

Optimal 1x or 2x Drivetrain Design with Narrow Q-Factor Cranks

The Mukluk frame is 1x and 2x-compatible and designed for premium drivetrain performance while maintaining narrow fat bike crank arms for less knee stress: 197 mm symmetrical rear end for modern rim and tire fit / 100 mm threaded bottom bracket / Rider-friendly narrow Q-factor cranks / Designed for 1x or 2x drivetrains / Up to a 32t max chainring for 1x setups; 36/24t max for 2x setups

Full-Length Internal Housing Cable Routing

Full-length housing improves shifting performance in poor conditions and increases use time between maintenance intervals

Stealth Dropper Post Routing

Compatible with 31.6 mm dropper posts for a true trail bike experience

Rear Rack Compatible

Designed for use with the Salsa Alternator Rack 190/197 (Salsa Rack-Lock seatpost collar required)

Multiple Accessory Frame Mounts

Mukluk features numerous accessory mounts: 2 water bottle mounts inside frame triangle / 1 accessory mount on under-side of down tube

FAQ

Will the Manitou Mastodon suspension fork fit on my Mukluk?

Mukluk Carbon = Yes, but customer needs to check crown clearance if less than 3mm. (If less than 3mm, Salsa offers a Cane Creek spacer part # HD8880); Mukluk Aluminum = No

What wheel and tire sizes can I use on this bike?

Mukluk Carbon and Aluminum frames are designed to work with:
26 x 3.8–5.0" on up to 100mm rim
27.5 x 3.0–4.0" on an 80mm rim
29 x 2.3–3.0" on a 50mm rim

Can I use a suspension fork on this frame?

Yes, this frame was designed and tested for use with a suspension fork with an axle-to-crown length up to 511mm (typically 100mm of travel). Check the fork manufacturer’s specifications to ensure the model and travel combination you intend to use is equal to or less than this length. Using a longer length fork will void the frame warranty and could result in frame failure. Forks with 51mm offset are strongly recommended, but 45mm offset is also acceptable (increases mechanical trail by 6mm).

How do I take care of the Alternator dropouts?

Periodically, we recommend that you remove the bolts, and clean the dirt and grime off the hardware and the frame surfaces. Then, lightly regrease the threaded parts and re-assemble.

Do you offer touch-up paint?

No, we do not offer touch up paint. Hobby shops or automotive stores are excellent places to find paint. We suggest you test the paint on a scrap piece of metal before using it on your frame.

I crashed and dented (or cracked) my frame. Is it safe to ride?

Stop riding your frame immediately and take it to the nearest Salsa authorized dealer for inspection. A dented or cracked tube represents a structural weakening of the frame, and is a safety risk.
