Additional Features

High-Modulus carbon Fiber Frame

Beargrease’s UDH-ready carbon fiber frame is stiff for maximum pedaling efficiency and keeps weight to a minimum. It also helps reduce trail vibrations for a smooth ride.

Beargrease Geometry

Beargrease geometry brings a modern mountain bike feel to fat-tire riding. A slack 65.6-degree head tube angle and 446mm rear center create a long wheelbase for stability and control in steep terrain and soft conditions. A steep 77-degree seat tube angle distributes weight evenly between front and rear wheels. This improves handling in low-traction conditions and provides more stability at speed while still allowing the bike to navigate tight singletrack situations. Improved standover makes mounting and dismounting easier in deep snow and other challenging terrain.

27.5 x 4.5" Tire Clearance

Beargrease clears tires up to 27.5 x 4.5" or 26 x 4.8" for enormous traction and float when trying to stick to your line in steep, soft, and loose terrain. Massive tires also roll easily rolling over rocks, roots and other trail obstacles for a smoother ride.

Bearpaw Carbon Fork

The redesigned Bearpaw Carbon fork gives you ample cargo space, with two sets of Three Pack mounts and mini-pannier compatibility. Beargrease also supports suspension forks up to 100mm travel.

Internal Dropper Post Routing

Dropper posts give you more control when riding in challenging terrain and make mounting and dismounting easier in deep snow. Internal routing keeps your cable and housing away from the elements.

Cargo Capacity

Beargrease lets you load up for all-day rides or adventures far from home. The main triangle fits three bottles on SM–XL frames (two on XS frames). You can also run a rear rack with the use of our Salsa Rack-Lock Seatpost Clamp (sold separately). Direct-mount frame bag mounts in the main triangle (carbon frames only) make for an extra-secure, streamlined frame bag setup.

Accessory Mounts

Beargrease makes it easy to accessorize, with top tube mounts for bags or K-Edge computer mounts. A mount under the downtube lets you carry a repair kit, stove fuel, or other accessories. A downtube fender mount (carbon frames only) helps keep debris at bay.

FAQ

Can I run a front rack on this frame?

The Bearpaw fork is designed with one set of Three-Pack mounts on each fork leg for mounting accessories like the Salsa Anything Cage, a pair of mini panniers, or bottle cages. It is not designed for use with traditional front racks.

Can I run a rear rack on this frame?

Yes, with the lower rack bosses on the frame and a Salsa 35.4 Rack-Lock seatpost collar (sold separately). Make sure the rear rack clears the top of the tire with adequate clearance — follow your rack manufacturer's instructions. We recommend using a rack like the Old Man Mountain Divide Fat rack.

What width cranks will this frame accept?

This Beargrease frame features 197mm rear spacing, but it is still compatible with narrow q-factor cranks designed around a 100mm threaded bottom bracket with a nominal 76–79mm chainline. Both Race Face and SRAM offer cranks like this.

Can I run a front derailleur on this frame?

No, Beargrease is only compatible with 1x drivetrains with a maximum chainring size of 32t .

What wheel and tire sizes can I use on this frame?

Beargrease is capable of running 27.5" wheels with 3.0–4.5" tires on rims up to 82mm internal width; 26" wheels with 3.8–4.8" tires on rims up to 100mm rims; and 29" wheels with 2.6–3.0" tires on rims up to 50mm.

Can I use a suspension fork on this frame?

Yes, you can run any suspension fork that has an axle to crown of 524mm (typically a 100mm travel fork), no adapters needed.

What are the upper mounts on the underside of Beargrease Carbon's downtube for?

Beargrease is designed to accept a bolt-on downtube fender like the PDW Mud Shovel 6.5 Front Fender in combination with a clip-on rear fender like the PDW Mud Shovel 6.5 Rear Fender.

What are the mounts under the top tube for?

Beargrease offers bolt-on framebag mounting points for half- or full-frame bags under the toptube on carbon fiber frames for clean and easy install.

Do you offer touch-up paint?

No, we do not offer touch up paint. Hobby shops or automotive stores are excellent places to find paint. We suggest you test the paint on a scrap piece of metal before using it on your frame.

I crashed and dented (or cracked) my frame. Is it safe to ride?

Stop riding your frame immediately and take it to the nearest Salsa authorized dealer for inspection. A dented or cracked tube represents a structural weakening of the frame, and is a safety risk.
