Bike Key Features
-
On-Bike Storage
View More- Adventures require gear and riders should get to choose whether they carry it on their bike or on their body
-
Class 5 VRS
View More- Comfort equates to speed and distance over rough terrain
- Rider benefit is inherent to the design
-
Frame Protection
View More- Our products are built from experience — we’ve been there enough to know that a carbon fork can benefit from added protection just as much as the downtube on a suspension bike.
-
Bar, Stem, Seatpost
View More- Bar, stem, and seatpost models are spec’d on bikes with the goal of making them as inclusive as possible, such as zero-rise handlebars on small flat-bar bikes to achieve proper stack height

Additional Features
Deluxe carbon fiber frame
Our most premium carbon fiber offering ever: this ultra-high-modulus carbon fiber frame shaves around 150 grams off the weight of our standard carbon construction without compromising durability, stiffness, or ride quality.
Class 5™ VRS
Our Class 5™ Vibration Reduction System has specially shaped seatstays with a tall, thin, vertically oriented profile that promotes vertical compliance by allowing the seatstays to "flex" outwards on impacts. The horizontally oriented chainstays work to resist torque and maintain a laterally stiff rear end. The seatstays and chainstays lack bridges, furthering the full length of the stays to contribute to flexibility. And a rear thru-axle delivers precise tracking while allowing the seatstays to provide that incredible compliance.
Flyway Carbon fork
The Flyway Carbon fork is full-carbon, fits up to 700c x 57mm tires, and features two sets of Three-Pack mounts and fender mounts. It also has internal brake hose routing through the headset and steerer tube for a super-clean look.
40mm suspension corrected
Flyway is suspension-corrected to fit 40mm gravel bike suspension forks to add even more rough road capability to your Flyway.
Flyway geometry
Flyway features progressive geometry with a long reach and short stem. A low bottom bracket and slack head tube angle maximize stability and confidence. Flyway’s short chainstay length makes it very responsive and symmetrical dropped chainstays combined with a steep seat tube angle deliver excellent power transfer.
On-bike cargo
Top tube bag mounts, generous bottle capacity, direct-mount frame bag mounts, rack and fender mounts.
Through-headset cable routing
Clean internal routing that’s hidden in the handlebars and stem and keeps hoses and housing out of the way of handlebar bags and accessories.
Generous tire clearance
Flyway can fit a 700c x 50mm tire in the frame and a 700c x 57mm tire in the fork.
FAQ
What headset standard does the Flyway use?
The Flyway frame uses an integrated style IS52/IS52 headset, so the bearings fit directly inside the headtube. This design also allows cables and hoses to be routed through the headset for a clean aesthetic and protection from damage.
What is the difference between the Deluxe Carbon layup and the Standard Carbon layup?
The Deluxe Carbon layup uses higher modulus carbon fiber in key areas of the frame to reduce weight. We focussed the Deluxe layup on weight reduction only, a MD Deluxe frame is about 150g lighter than a MD frame in the standard carbon layup. The Deluxe layup still has the same great ride quality as the standard layup as we did not want to jeopordize that as part of reducing weight.
Can I run 650b on the Flyway?
Yes. Although Flyway is optimized for 700c tires, it can accommodate up to 650b x 51mm tires. Keep in mind that 650b tires will lower the bottom bracket height; we do not recommend installing tires smaller than 650b x 47mm.
Is Flyway compatible with front derailleurs?
Yes, the Flyway is compatible with Shimano Di2 and SRAM AXS electronic front derailleurs.
Can I run fenders on the Flyway?
Yes, you can run full coverage fenders on the Flyway but you will need a Salsa Seatstay Bridge Fender Mount Adaptor for Class 5 VRS, that allows installation of full coverage fenders on Class 5 VRS frames that do not have a seat stay bridge.
Can I use a suspension fork on the Flyway?
Yes, the Flyway frame is optimized around gravel suspension forks with 40mm of travel, but is compatible with all gravel suspension forks that have an axle to crown length of up to 457mm.
Can I mount a rack on the Flyway?
Yes. Flyway is compatible with rear racks (Salsa Rack Lock seatpost collar required); the Flyway Carbon fork is compatible with the Salsa Down Under front rack
Is the Flyway dropper post compatible?
Yes. We designed Flyway with enough seat tube insertion depth that you can install any length 27.2mm dropper post that will accommodate your saddle height.
I crashed and dented (or cracked) my frame. Is it safe to ride?
Stop riding your frame immediately and take it to the nearest Salsa authorized dealer for inspection. A dented or cracked tube represents a structural weakening of the frame, and is a safety risk.
Do you offer touch-up paint?
No, we do not offer touch up paint. Hobby shops or automotive stores are excellent places to find paint. We suggest you test the paint on a scrap piece of metal before using it on your frame.
