Additional Features

6061-T6 Alloy Frame

Notch’s aluminum alloy tubing is developed specifically for the Notch frame, and is heat-treated to T6 alloy standards for extra strength and durability.

Split Pivot Rear Suspension

Split Pivot provides a host of impressive suspension characteristics because the system isolates pedaling forces and braking forces from each other, allowing us to tune and optimize the bike for both independently. The concentric rear axle pivot, in conjunction with precise wheel link, brake link, and control link placement, results in excellent bump compliance and pedaling efficiency, smooth and predictable braking throughout travel, and maximum traction.

Split Pivot+ Design Methodology

The Split Pivot+ design methodology allows our engineers to optimize a frame for more than one travel class. This means you can swap control and shock links, in addition to the rear shock and fork, for more or less travel. You can set up Notch for 160–180mm of rear travel and a 160–190mm fork (up to 200mm travel with dual-crown fork). One frame, multiple bikes.

Bosch Performance Line CX Drive System

Notch runs on Bosch’s Performance Line CX with smart system, a Class 1 motor that delivers electric assist up to 20 mph/32 kph. The Performance Line CX comes packed with features you’ll appreciate out on the trail: an eMTB tune with loads of torque, Smart Walk Assist for pushing up steep tracks, and Hill Hold to prevent rollback. This mid-drive setup also keeps the motor’s weight low and centered on the bike for neutral handling.

85Nm max torque

The Bosch Performance Line CX system delivers up to 85Nm of assist, with four customizable assist levels and an integrated speed sensor to control torque output.

500Wh Internal Battery

The Bosch PowerTube 500 battery offers enough range to hit lap after lap. It’s also fully encased in the downtube for added stiffness and a nice, clean look.

Flip Chip

Easily adjust Notch's bottom bracket height (7.5mm) and head tube angle (0.5 degrees) to suit your preferences, terrain, or wheel and tire size.

On-bike Cargo

Notch gives you a dedicated spot in the frame for your bottle, multi-tool, and spare tube so you can leave your hip pack at home.

Internal Routing

Internal routing for dropper and shift cable housing and brake hoses gives Notch a clean look and helps keep cables from catching on the trail.

29 x 2.6" Tire Clearance

Hold your line on steep, loose terrain with clearance for large tires.

Molded Frame Protection

Take the “ding” out of riding with durable, custom-fit frame protection pieces in high-wear and damage-prone areas.

SRAM UDH Compatible

This derailleur hanger design optimizes shifting performance and makes it much easier to replace a bent or broken hanger.

FAQ

What is the Bosch Performance Line CX mid-drive system?

Notch uses the Bosch Performance Line CX mid-drive system. This system features a motor built into the bike’s bottom bracket, powered by a battery in the bike’s downtube. The Bosch Performance Line CX system delivers up to 85Nm of torque and is paired with a Bosch 500Wh PowerTube 500 battery. This is a Class 1 system that only provides electric assist up to 20mph/32kph.

For more information, visit our Why Bosch? page.

What is the range?

Ebike range depends on many factors, including rider and equipment weight, weather conditions, route choice, assist level, and more. Bosch’s Range Calculator offers the most accurate range estimate possible. Click through the tabs on the right to customize your inputs. In the “eBike” tab, adjust the settings as follows:

  • Drive: Performance Line CX
  • Battery: PowerTube 500
  • Type of bicycle: Mountain eBike (eMTB)
  • Tire tread: MTB tires (enduro)

Want to go even farther on a single charge? The Bosch PowerMore 250 range-extender battery (sold separately) mounts to the Notch frame and can extend range by up to 50%.

Is the battery removable?

The battery is designed to be removed only by a bike shop for service.

Can I put 27.5" wheels on this bike?

Notch is compatible with a 27.5 x 2.5–2.8" wheel and tire in the rear only.

How do I maintain my e-bike?

Maintenance on an ebike is mostly the same as any other bike, but keep these tips in mind:

  • More torque and more miles = more wear: Electric assist puts more strain on components and empowers you to ride more miles, so parts like your chain, brakes, and tires may wear out faster than you’re used to. Check them frequently and replace as you would on any other bike.
  • Washing is OK: The motor and battery on your ebike are sealed against water, so you can wash your ebike like you would a regular bike. However, avoid high-pressure hoses and keep the charging port closed to block moisture. Wipe down controllers rather than spraying them directly with water.
  • Battery care: Your ebike’s battery will last longer if the bike is stored in a cool, dry place. If storing the bike for long periods of time, try to keep battery charged between 30–60%. The battery will gradually lose charge, so check it periodically and charge as necessary.
  • Don’t try motor maintenance at home: If your ebike’s motor, battery, or other electronic components aren’t functioning properly, take them to your local authorized Salsa retailer for service — they are trained and best-equipped to maintain and repair ebike systems.

Is my ebike safe to keep in my home?

Yes. The batteries used in Salsa ebikes are UL2849-compliant, meaning they have been tested to the highest standards of safety to prevent electrical shock or fires. Always use the manufacturer-supplied charger for your ebike. The Bosch battery used in Notch is additionally certified to UL2271.

Can I run a coil shock on this bike?

Yes, Notch uses a progressive leverage rate that is compatible with Air and Coil shocks. Please see the attached PDF with starting coil weight recommendations based on rider + gear weight.

Do you offer touch-up paint?

No, we do not offer touch up paint. Hobby shops or automotive stores are excellent places to find paint. We suggest you test the paint on a scrap piece of metal before using it on your frame.

I crashed and dented (or cracked) my frame. Is it safe to ride?

Stop riding your frame immediately and take it to the nearest Salsa authorized dealer for inspection. A dented or cracked tube represents a structural weakening of the frame, and is a safety risk.

What is the warranty for this bike?

Warranty Information

All Salsa products are warranted against manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship from the date of retail purchase of the product, subject to the limitations detailed below.
