Additional Features
High-modulus carbon fiber frame
Moraine C features a high-modulus carbon fiber frame for reduced weight and improved stiffness.
Split Pivot Rear Suspension
Split Pivot provides a host of impressive suspension characteristics because the system isolates pedaling forces and braking forces from each other, allowing us to tune and optimize the bike for both independently. The concentric rear axle pivot, in conjunction with precise wheel link, brake link, and control link placement, results in excellent bump compliance and pedaling efficiency, smooth and predictable braking throughout travel, and maximum traction.
Split Pivot+ Design Methodology
The Split Pivot+ design methodology allows our engineers to optimize a frame for more than one travel class. This means you can swap control and shock links, in addition to the rear shock and fork, for more or less travel. You can set up Moraine for 125—145mm of rear travel and a 140–160mm fork. One frame, multiple bikes.
Fazua Ride 60 Drive System
Moraine runs on Fazua’s Ride 60 drive system, a lightweight unit weighing in at just 9.2lb (4.2kg) yet delivering 60Nm max torque. Moraine’s mid-drive setup also keeps the motor’s weight low and centered on the bike for neutral handling. The Fazua Ride 60 is a Class 1 motor with electric assist up to 20 mph/32 kph.
60Nm max torque
The Fazua Ride 60 system delivers up to 60Nm of assist, with three customizable assist levels and a speed sensor to control torque output.
480Wh internal battery

FAQ
What is the Fazua Ride 60 mid-drive system?
Moraine uses the Fazua Ride 60 mid-drive system. This system features a motor built into the bike’s bottom bracket, powered by a battery in the bike’s downtube.
The Fazua Ride 60 system delivers up to 60Nm of torque and is paired with a 430Wh Fazua Energy 430 battery. This is a Class 1 system that only provides electric assist up to 20mph/32kph. For more information, visit our Why Fazua? page.
Where can I learn more about the R60 System?
Fazua, the drive system manufacture provides great information about the drive system on the Ride 60 product page and in their FAQ.
How do I use the Fazua Ride 60 system?
The Fazua Ride 60 offers natural feelign support with intuituive modes and controls. When new to the system, it is important to familiarize with system and operation for best ride experience.
To turn the system on, press and hold the operating switch on the handle bar mounted controller up or forward for at least 2 seconds. The LED display located on the top tube will illuminate on when the system has powered on. To turn off, press and hold the controller down for at least 2 seconds. The LED will turn off when the system has shut down.
Use the operating switch to change between assistance levels. Press the operating switch 1× briefly up or forward for the next higher assistance level. Press down or backward 1× briefly to switch to the next lower assistance level. Walk assist is engaged pressing and holding the operatign swith inward, toward the center of the bar.
The current assistance level or mode is indicated by the color of the LED display. White indicates no support, the system is operating without providing assistance and can be pedaled like a conventional bicycle. Green indicates "Breeze" an active but light pedal assist mode for maximum range. Blue light indicates "River", the middle assist mode. River offers resposive support and is appropiate for a wide range of trails. Pink indicates "Rocket", the mode provids maximum output for the most challenging terrain.
The LED also displays stat of charge with five indicator lights, each representing 20% of battery capacity. For example, if the LED display is showing four of five pink lights the system is in Rocket mode and the charge is between 60% and 80% capacity. If the LED shows two of five blue bars the system is in River mode and the battery between 20% and 40% capacity.
For visual display of the system controls and operations, please see the Moraine FAZUA Instructions found on salsacycles.com.
For complete drive syste instructions, please download the FAZUA RIDE 60 User Manual.
What is the boost function?
In addition to the 3 regular riding modes, Breeze, River, and Rocket, the Ride 60 has a boost function that delivers up to 450 watts (an additional 200 watt power out out beyond maximum delivered Rocket mode) for a short period of time. This helps to push the bike up impossibly steep sections or when big a acceleration is needed to get through a trail feature. With system already, press and hold the mode controller forward for at least two seconds to engage boost. The LED hub controls will blink steadily when boost has been enabled. Boost can be used from a standstill or while already in motion.
What is the range?
Ebike range depends on many factors, including rider and equipment weight, weather conditions, route choice, assist level, and more. The Fazua App provides real-time data on battery level and range.
How do I maintain my ebike?
Maintenance on an ebike is mostly the same as any other bike, but keep these tips in mind:
More torque and more miles = more wear: Electric assist puts more strain on components and empowers you to ride more miles, so parts like your chain, brakes, and tires may wear out faster than you’re used to. Check them frequently and replace as you would on any other bike.
Washing is OK: The motor and battery on your ebike are sealed against water, so you can wash your ebike like you would a regular bike. However, avoid high-pressure hoses and keep the charging port closed to block moisture. Wipe down controllers rather than spraying them directly with water.
Battery care: Your ebike’s battery will last longer if the bike is stored in a cool, dry place. If storing the bike for long periods of time, try to keep battery charged between 30–60%. The battery will gradually lose charge, so check it periodically and charge as necessary.
Don’t try motor maintenance at home: If your ebike’s motor, battery, or other electronic components aren’t functioning properly, take them to your local authorized Salsa retailer for service — they are trained and best-equipped to maintain and repair ebike systems.
Can I change the top speed of my Fazua Ride 60 system?
No. Moraine is a class 1 eMTB with a maximum pedal-assist speed of 20 mph / 32 kph. The Ride 60 system has an integrated speed sensor. You will find a small magnet installed at the rear rotor that must be present for the system to function.
The bike can exceed 20 mph pedaling un-assisted past the system threshold. This most commonly occurs while descending.
Can I use a rear shock from a different manufacturer?
We have intentionally tuned shocks inlcuded with Moraine models for the performance and support needed for this travel class of eMTB. We cannot guarantee satisfactory results using a non-OEM spec shock.
That said, it's your bike and we're here to support you. Please follow the portion of the Moraine travel conversion instructions applicable to rear shock compatibility and installation. Out of the box, Moraine utilizes a standard metric 210 x 55 shock with non body eyelet bushing and Ø10 x 30mm forward mout hardware for 145mm rear travel.
What if I want run wireless electronic shift and dropper post controls?
Excellent, we support you in this endeavor!
A suggestion for best result; consider switching the Fazua wired controller to the right hand side of the bar for pairing with wireless shift and dropper controls. This allows the drive sytem controller wire to be supported by the rear brake hose around the front the of headtube and into headtube junction internal routing port rather than being unsupported on the left in front of the bike where it could become lonesome and is more susceptible to damage during a crash. We include wire-to-hose clips on all Moraine models for this very purpose. They work great. Electrical tape or a few thin zip ties also work really well if you prefer or want a little extra security for the control wire. Some of our staff have come to prefer the right hand mounted Fazua controller even in pairing with mechanical dropper controls. It's a bicycle. They are modular. The world's your oyster. Mmmmmm oysters.
A few things to note with this set up; If you run your brakes 'moto', in reversed orientation with left hand brake lever controlling rear caliper, congratulations on being cooler than I could ever hope to be! And, please disregard the suggestion above. Your control wire will be supported into the frame port via your left hand mounted rear brake you legend you.
Additionally, reversing the cotroller orientatation reverses the orientation of the controls. Left is now right, forward is now rearward, up is still up, and down is still down, and gravity still has consequence so don't go inverting yourself unless you were able to do that before switching your controls around. Now that your controls are switched, turning the system on is accomplished by pressing and holding the controller to the rear position until the LED hub illuminates. Similalry, toggling through increased assist modes breeze -> river -> rocket is is now accomplished pressing the controller to the rearward. With system on, presssing and holding the controller to the rear will engage boost. Reducing assist mode with right hand control orientation is accomplished pressing forward. Press and hold to turn the system off. I think that covers it. In our experience reversed controls are pretty easy to get used to. Within a few rides, you will be Fazua assist mode toggling aboard your Salsa Moraine like a champion.
Can I use a mixed wheel set up?
Yes. We recommend a minimum 27.5 x 2.5" rear tire paired with a 29 x 2.5–2.6" front tire. We also recommend use with 160mm travel (571mm axle-to-crown) fork and 165mm maximum crank arm length for mixed wheel set ups. All Salsa full-suspension bikes should be run in the default "DEF" flip chip position for mixed wheel sizes. Save the "Low" flip chip position for a more stable ride feel with full 29" wheel configurations. We do not recommend use of 27.5" front wheel with Moraine.
How do I set up my rear shock?
Find shock setup instructions here. All Salsa full-suspension frames are designed for 30% sag at the rear suspension. Moraine with a 205 x 55mm shock at 145mm of rear wheel travel should be run at 16.5mm of sag, as measured when seated on the bike in your pedaling position.
Can I change travel on Moraine?
Leveraging SplitPivot+ methodology, Moraine is designed to be capable of running 160mm to 180mm of rear wheel travel. Please find the Moraine travel conversion instructions here.
In summary, to reduce travel from 145mm w/ 210x55mm shock to 125mm rear travel, a 190x45mm shock is needed. An aftermarket control + shock link set available form your local Salsa dealer is also required.
For any shock and travel changes, we recommend consulting your local Salsa dealer for their expertise on alternate shock compatibility and performance.
May I run a coil shock on this bike?
Moraine has a progressive leverage rate that offers plenty of end-stroke support for coil shocks. Please refer to Moraine travel conversions here for more details on how to change the shock.
Is the battery removable?
The battery is designed to be removed only by a bike shop for service.
I crashed and dented (or cracked) my frame. Is it safe to ride?
Stop riding your frame immediately and take it to the nearest Salsa authorized dealer for inspection. A dented or cracked tube represents a structural weakening of the frame, and is a safety risk.
